Week 23

6pm Carillion vs SMC Gower

6pm Design Group 3 vs Atkins

7pm Robinsons vs Acanthus WSM

7pm Marshalls vs Aedas

8pm Harris vs Sturgeon North

A Gripping Season Finale

Last game of the season for the Marshalls league. Atkins only need a draw to win the league, DG3 need all 3 points. SMC Gower need victory and hope that Robinsons draw or lose or Aedas lose to avoid relegation. Marshalls need to do as well as or better than Carillion to finish third. At this stage any team from Aedas, Robinsons or SMC Gower can be relegated alongside Acanthus WSM - it’s the closest finish for years - who will snatch defeat form the jaws of victory? Who will be the hero and who the villain? Will a Dubai-backed consortium buy out one of the teams and bring in some world class ringers before the end of the season? And why aren’t Sky Sports showing this gripping finale to a well contested season?! It’s all to play for!

To add to the excitement the following teams are struggling for players forcing one-hour loan spells this evening. [hope that's in the rules] :

DG3, Atkins, SMC Gower, Acanthus WSM, Aedas and Marshalls.

That’ll be only Robinsons that haven’t asked for help!

The eagerly anticipated cup game between The Harris Partnership & Sturgeon North was the final game of the day kicking off under the atmospheric glow of the flood lights. The game saw a bright start from Harris with Dan ‘hairy man’ Broadhead causing problems on the right with his attempted through balls to ‘magic boots’ Lingard but just as things looked promising Broadhead was replaced and Harris were caught with a counter attack and a cool finish to put Sturgeon 1 up which started the usual collapse. By half time Harris were 5-1 down with only ringer 2 from marshall’s finding the back of the Sturgeon net after a good solo run. Straight from kick off Sturgeon scored again which seemed to spark the contest back into life with Lingard quickly getting on the score sheet for Harris. The game then turned into a counter attacking spectacle with the fans (Larham) getting brilliant value for money as the goals started to flow at both ends so fast even the referee lost count of the score. As the game drew to a close the drama reached its peak as straight from kick off Lingard saw the keeper off his line and from inside his own half struck a wickedly dipping shot which hit the back of the net surely getting him goal of the season if not goal of the decade. A goal more for each team ended a second half which will be remembered as a brilliant example of the beautiful game and big congratulations from Harris to Sturgeon North who marched on into the next round.

Actually I think the Marshalls scorers were:

    Connolly 1, King 1

A hard fought but fair game and we spent a good part of the second half with backs to the wall riding out luck a bit. Well played and a fine finish to the season!

Great match report Adam. Not a patch on your goal though. I agree it is a contender for goal of the season. Only competition I know is Dom’s bullet from the half way line. Keeper didn’t move then either but he didn’t see it coming. Oh, er, neither did ours!

    Atkins 2 - DG3 1

Shame it was neither of our strongest teams to battle for the title, but despite going a goal behind we edged it 2-1.

Atkins scorers were either McGregor (2) or McGregor (1) and an og, depending on what your view on deflected free kicks is???

I think he’d like to claim them both!

Our 3rd title in 7 years, so lets see if we can finally put out a team to bring back the elusive cup and do the double - I doubt it.

Dunk: Since the OG / deflection came off my boot I’ll be happy to put it down as a regular goal. I’m sure it must have been on target so that’ll satisfy the dubious goals panel.
